" Gilligan, a UMass assistant for six years and the person responsible for Pock playing here, is not returning next season. He disclosed the news at the team's break-up banquet yesterday morning at the Student Union Ballroom.
Gilligan, 49, cited family priorities as the reason for his departure. Gilligan and his wife Jennifer have two children (Patrick 3 years old, Mackenzie 1) and another on the way.
"The lifestyle of an assistant coach doesn't coincide with family life," said Gilligan, who would like to be a collegiate head coach. "At least as a head coach, there are more nights you get to sleep in your own bed."
